Let’s talk trends – Deep Ocean

OK, let’s get back to the important stuff – this seasons pending trends.

Summer’s 2012 trends have developed from minimalist whites and pastel tones to aqua-based ‘ocean’ trends. One benefit of being interested in fashion and working for a high street brand such as Topshop, is that I am able to understand how top-end designers such as Mary Katrantzo and Mark Fast, produce their extravagant designs for a high street platform. It’s obvious when comparing high street and catwalk designs with such designers, that Topshop are closely involved with their designers. The replicas don’t stray very far from the catwalk at all.

Walking into the store for my usual Saturday shift, I was washed away with deep ocean greens and blues from wall to wall. The pearly sequins bounced between wet- look  marine skirts and oceanic cropped tops. Before you assume, with this current trend you don’t have to be dripping in shimmering metallics. It actually helps if you tone down pieces with hints of white and gold. The teal greens  turquoise blues and pearly whites, are hugely complimentary for lighter skin tones, whilst the deep cobalt blues, aqua blues and pink metallics are more well suited to dark skin tones.

Here’s some of my favourite pieces from Topshop’s line.

This sequin dress is my favourite by far. The teal tones are complimented with pearlescent white sequins. Dress down for a day look with faded whites on the bottom half

Now you have to be quite a brave character to pull off a pair of fringe shorts like these, but let's face it, these aqua shorts are BEAUTIFUL

Check this Shimmer skater skirt. Not only is the shape complimentary of all figure types, the pearl tones reflect directly onto your skin tone to produce that dewy, summer glow

Or, check out this metallic beauty from Topshop's current line. To be dressed with aqua blues. To really make this outfit pop, add some teal coloured heels
